The purpose of this article is to review the current status of national dementia management, ¡°the National Dementia Responsibility Policy¡± in Korea, and to examine the implications for future policy. As the global population is aging, the dementia population is soaring, and its socioeconomic burden is increasing, health policy for dementia is prioritized internationally. Through examining the domestic and international dementia management policies, our study found that we should elaborate social or care services for geriatric diseases, especially dementia related medical services such as
screening, treatment, rehabilitation, and protection or prevention in order to improve the current health care system. We also need to consider the changing background factors on the policy environment like future demographic, socioeconomic and health policy directions. And also, it is important to reinforce the basis of the clinical and economic evidences for the management of dementia at the national level and rearrange R&D fund and resources for the real-world evidence at the
mid and long term planning. Finally, more researchers should make efforts into improving the basis for supporting evidence-based policy and health technology evaluation related with dementia care.
